Author Guidelines

NEO CIVIC EDUCATION: MEDIA KAJIAN PANCASILA DAN KEWARGANEGARAAN

Author Guidelines

These guidelines follow APA 7th edition and the COPE Core Practices. Prepare two versions of your manuscript, one with author details and one anonymous, using the journal templates. Click a section to open it.

01Before you start▾

Check the scope. Neo Civic Education: Media Kajian Pancasila dan Kewarganegaraan publishes research on Pancasila and civic education, citizenship, and related fields. See Focus and Scope and Types of Manuscript.

Read the policies. Publication Ethics, Authorship, Conflict of Interest, Generative AI, and Plagiarism apply to every submission.

Originality. The manuscript is unpublished and not under review elsewhere. Disclose any earlier version (a thesis, a conference paper, or a preprint). Every manuscript is screened for similarity.

Language. Manuscripts are written in English.

Double-blind review. Authors and reviewers do not know each other’s identities. You therefore prepare two versions of the manuscript: one with author details and one anonymous (section 06).

02Article types and templates▾
Article type What it is Templates (.docx)
Original research article Qualitative, quantitative, or mixed-methods empirical study With author details · Anonymous
Systematic literature review Review reported in line with PRISMA 2020, with a flow diagram With author details · Anonymous · PRISMA 2020 checklist
Conceptual article Theoretical or critical analysis that builds a clear argument from the literature With author details · Anonymous

Download the templates from the Manuscript Template page. [Upload the two template files for each type and link them on that page.]

03How to use the template▾
  1. Read the guidance in the blue boxes, follow it, then delete the boxes.
  2. Replace every placeholder in [square brackets] with your own text and remove the highlighting.
  3. Keep the built-in styles: Heading 1, Heading 2, and Heading 3 for headings and Normal for body text. Do not change fonts, margins, or spacing by hand.
  4. Write in English and cite in APA 7th edition (sections 11 and 12).
  5. Complete every end-matter statement (section 09).
  6. Save the file with author details first, then make the anonymous copy as described in section 06.

05General writing format▾

Body text The Normal style of the template (12 pt, justified).
Headings Up to three levels, unnumbered, in sentence case. Use a subheading only when a section has at least two parts.
Spelling One convention (British or American) used consistently. Italicise non-English terms and give an English gloss at first use, for example gotong royong (mutual cooperation).
Abbreviations Write the term in full at first use, followed by the abbreviation in parentheses: Pancasila and Civic Education (PPKn).
Numbers Words for one to nine, numerals for 10 and above; numerals for statistics, percentages, ages, and measurements; a full stop for decimals (3.45).
Statistics Report in APA style: M = 3.42, SD = 0.61, t(58) = 2.14, p = .036. Italicise statistical symbols.
Notes Endnotes for explanations only, used sparingly. Never use notes for references.
06Two versions: with author details and anonymous▾

Because review is double-blind, every submission has two versions of the same manuscript. The text, tables, figures, and references are identical; only the identifying information differs.

Firstname Lastnamea*, Firstname Lastnameb

Title block: anonymous manuscript

Internalising Pancasila values among junior high school students in North Sulawesi
[Author details removed for double-blind review]

How to make the anonymous version

  1. Save a copy of the file with author details and name it Anonymous_[short title].docx.
  2. Delete names, affiliations, emails, ORCID iDs, and the corresponding-author note from the title block.
  3. Delete Acknowledgements, Funding, and Author Contributions; mask the ethics committee name.
  4. Mask self-citations: in the text, write (Author, 2024) instead of your name; in the reference list, write Author. (2024). [Details withheld for review]. Place it alphabetically under “A”.
  5. Remove other clues: the name of your own institution as a research site where it reveals the authors (write “a public university in eastern Indonesia”), project names, and links to your own profiles or data repositories (write “[link withheld for review]”).
  6. Accept all tracked changes and delete all comments.
  7. Clear the file properties: in Word, File > Info > Check for Issues > Inspect Document, then remove Document Properties and Personal Information.
  8. Save as .docx and check the result with File > Info before uploading.
Do not over-anonymise: keep citations to your own work when they are needed, but in the masked form above. Restore all details in the final version after acceptance.
07Title, authors, abstract, and keywords▾
Title Concise, specific, and informative, ideally no more than 20 words, in sentence case. Include the key concepts and the context. Avoid abbreviations and phrases such as “A study of”.
Authors In the version with author details only (section 06). Everyone listed meets the authorship criteria; changes after submission follow the Authorship Changes policy.
Abstract 200–250 words in one paragraph, with no citations or undefined abbreviations. State the purpose, the method (design, participants or data, analysis), the main findings, and the contribution or implications.
Keywords 3–5 words or phrases, separated by semicolons, in alphabetical order, not repeating words from the title.
08Structure of the article▾
Introduction Background, a concise review of the literature, the research gap and why it matters, and the research question(s). End with the objective. Include a Level 2 subheading Theoretical framework (or Conceptual framework) where relevant.
Method Design and approach; setting; participants or data sources and how they were selected; instruments or data collection; data analysis; and steps for validity or trustworthiness. State how ethical issues were handled. Suggested Level 2 subheadings: Research design; Participants and setting; Data collection; Data analysis.
Results and Discussion Results: findings organised by research question or theme, with adequate evidence (quotations, documents, statistics). Discussion: interpretation against the research questions and the framework, comparison with earlier studies, novelty, and theoretical and practical implications.
Conclusion Answer the research question(s), state implications and limitations, and suggest further research. Do not repeat the results.
Systematic review Same order; the Method reports the PRISMA 2020 items (search strategy, databases and dates, eligibility criteria, selection, data extraction, quality appraisal), with a PRISMA flow diagram.
Conceptual article Introduction, a set of argument sections with clear headings, a discussion of implications, and a conclusion.
09End-matter statements▾

After the Conclusion and before the References, complete every statement, even if the answer is “none”. They follow COPE transparency practices.

Statement What to write Version
Acknowledgements People or institutions that helped but are not authors, with their permission. With author details only
Funding Funder, grant number, and any role of the funder. If none: “This research received no specific grant from any funding agency.” With author details only

Disclosure Statement Interests that could be seen as a conflict. If none: “The authors report no conflict of interest.” Both
Ethics Approval and Consent Committee, number, and date, and how consent was obtained; or why approval was not needed. Both (committee masked)
Data Availability Where the data can be accessed, or why they cannot be shared. Both (link masked)
Use of Generative AI Tool, version, purpose, and how the output was checked. AI tools cannot be authors. If none, say so. Both

The corresponding author also completes the Author Declaration Form for all authors.

10Tables and figures▾

Tables

  • Number tables in the order they are cited (“Table 1 shows…”) and place each after its first mention.
  • Above the table: Table 1 in bold on one line, and the title in Italic Title Case on the next line.
  • Use editable Word tables with horizontal lines only; no images of tables, no shading, no vertical lines.
  • Below the table: notes and the source, for example Note. Data processed by the authors (2026).

Figures

  • Charts, diagrams, models, flowcharts (including PRISMA), maps, and photographs are figures. Number and title them as for tables, above the figure.
  • Insert figures in line with text, centred, at 300 dpi or more (JPG, PNG, or TIFF), readable in greyscale, with text inside in English and at least 8 pt.
  • Obtain written permission for reproduced figures and consent for photographs of identifiable people. Do not show the same data in a table and a figure.
