Reporting Guidelines & Registration

01Policy▾
Clear and complete reporting lets readers judge, use, and repeat research. Neo Civic Education: Media Kajian Pancasila dan Kewarganegaraan asks authors to follow the reporting guideline that fits their study design, as part of the COPE Core Practice on data and reproducibility. Most guidelines are collected by the EQUATOR Network.
Systematic reviews Required: PRISMA 2020, with the flow diagram
Other designs Recommended: the guideline that fits the study (section 02)
At submission State the guideline used in the Methods; upload the completed checklist as a supplementary file where one exists
02Which guideline to use▾
Systematic review or meta-analysis PRISMA 2020 (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses), with flow diagram and checklist
Scoping review PRISMA-ScR
Quantitative research (surveys, correlational, quasi-experimental) APA JARS-Quant (Journal Article Reporting Standards for quantitative research)
Qualitative research (interviews, focus groups, ethnography, case studies) APA JARS-Qual, or SRQR (Standards for Reporting Qualitative Research) or COREQ for interviews and focus groups
Mixed methods APA JARS-Mixed
Observational studies STROBE
Randomised trials CONSORT
Survey research CHERRIES for online surveys, where relevant
03What every Methods section should report▾
—  The research design and approach, and why it suits the question.
—  The setting, time period, and context of the study.
—  Participants or sources: how they were chosen, how many, and their main characteristics, protecting anonymity.
—  Instruments and materials: their source, validity and reliability, or development; translation and adaptation where relevant.
—  Procedures for data collection, step by step.
—  Data analysis: methods, software, coding procedures, and checks of credibility or robustness.
—  Ethics approval or exemption, and how informed consent was obtained. See the Ethical Clearance Statement.
—  Limitations of the design and data.
04Systematic reviews in detail▾
1.  State the review question, for example using PICO, PEO, or SPIDER, as appropriate.
2.  Register or publish the protocol where possible, for example on OSF, and give the registration number.
3.  Report the databases, dates of search, and full search strings, so the search can be repeated.
4.  Give the inclusion and exclusion criteria, and how screening was done and by how many reviewers.
5.  Show the selection in a PRISMA 2020 flow diagram.
6.  Appraise the quality or risk of bias of the included studies, and say which tool was used.
7.  Synthesise the findings, beyond describing each study, and discuss the certainty of the evidence.
05Registration of studies▾
Registration before data collection is encouraged for experiments, trials, and systematic reviews, for example on OSF Registries. Give the registration number and link in the Methods. Differences between the registered plan and the final study are explained.
06How editors and reviewers use the guidelines▾
—  Editors check at screening that the guideline is named and the checklist is supplied where required. A systematic review without PRISMA 2020 reporting is returned to the authors.
—  Reviewers use the guideline to assess completeness. See the Reviewer Guidelines.
—  Incomplete reporting may lead to a request for revision.
