NEO CIVIC EDUCATION: MEDIA KAJIAN PANCASILA DAN KEWARGANEGARAAN

Submissions from Editors

How manuscripts by editors and reviewers are handled fairly, following COPE. Click a section to open it.

01Policy▾
Editors and members of the editorial board of Neo Civic Education: Media Kajian Pancasila dan Kewarganegaraan may submit their own research to the journal. Their manuscripts receive no advantage: they go through the same double-anonymous review, handled independently by another editor, following the COPE Core Practices on conflicts of interest and peer review processes.
Who is covered The Editor-in-Chief, Managing Editor, Editors, Associate Editors, Layout and Language Editors, and editorial staff, and manuscripts on which they are co-authors
Handled by An editor with no conflict of interest, appointed by the Editor-in-Chief (or by another senior editor if the Editor-in-Chief is an author)
Review Double-anonymous, at least two independent reviewers, same criteria and time limits as all manuscripts
Access The editor-author has no access to the review process or the reviewers’ identities
02How these manuscripts are handled▾
1.  The editor-author submits through the journal system like any author, and declares the editorial role in the comments to the editor.
2.  The manuscript is assigned to an independent handling editor. The editor-author is removed from all editorial roles on that submission in the journal system.
3.  Reviewers are chosen by the handling editor, without suggestions from the editor-author, and have no link with them.
4.  The handling editor makes the recommendation, and the decision is taken by an editor who is not an author.
5.  Discussions of the manuscript take place without the editor-author present.
03When the Editor-in-Chief is an author▾
—  The manuscript is handled by another senior editor, who makes the final decision.
—  The Editor-in-Chief has no access to the submission’s review or decision records.
—  Where possible, at least one reviewer is from outside Indonesia.
04Limits and transparency▾
—  The journal monitors the share of research articles by its editors in each issue (editorials excluded; see section 05), so that editorial roles do not become a publication channel.
—  Published articles by editors or board members carry a note: “[Name] is a member of the editorial team of Neo Civic Education and was not involved in the handling of or decision on this article.”
—  The same applies to manuscripts by staff of the publisher and of AP3KnI who hold editorial roles.
05Editorials in each issue▾
The Editor-in-Chief or a member of the editorial team writes an Editorial for every issue. An editorial is different from a research article submitted by an editor:
Purpose Introduces the issue, summarises the articles, and comments on themes, developments, or policies of the journal and the field.
Review Editorials are editorial content and are not peer reviewed. They are reviewed internally by the editorial team for accuracy.
Labelling Published in the “Editorial” section and clearly labelled as an editorial, never as a research article.
Fees No fees (the journal charges none).
Authorship Only the editors who wrote it are named as authors.
—  Editorials do not present new research data or findings. Research by editors must be submitted as a manuscript under sections 01–04.
—  Editorials cite the articles in the issue only to introduce them, and do not cite the editors’ own work, or the journal’s, to increase citations. Self-citation in editorials is kept to what is needed.
—  Any conflict of interest of the author of the editorial, for example a link with an article discussed, is declared at the end of the editorial.
—  Editorials are not counted in the share of articles by editors monitored in section 04.
06Reviewers and guest editors▾
Reviewers listed by the journal may submit manuscripts as normal authors. Their role as reviewer gives no advantage, and they cannot review their own work or that of close collaborators. See Reviewer Competing Interests.
